DeJong, Wisse remain alive for podium spots

DES MOINES —

The Oskaloosa duo of Skylar DeJong and Mason Wisse are guaranteed spots on the podium.

DeJong and Wisse won their consolation matches and will wrestle again later Friday night.

Their teammates, Drew Sams and Drea Lamb, weren't so fortunate as they were elimated from further competition.

Here's how The Herald area wrestlers fared Friday

Class 3A

106 — McGwire Midkiff, Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson, dec. Drew Sams, Oskaloosa 3-1 in consolation second round. Finishes 39-7.

120 — Skylar DeJong, Oskaloosa, dec. Trevor Wharton, Indianola, 11-8 in consolation second round; vs. Sam Uthoff, Cedar Rapids Prairie, in consolation third round.

182 — Izaak Miller, Waverly-Shell Rock, pinned Mason Wisse, Oskaloosa, 5:26 in quarterfinal; Wisse dec. Chris Thomas, Council Bluffs Lewis Central, 11-5 in consolation second round. vs. Donovan Doyle, Iowa City West in consolation third round.

195 — Marcus Harrington, Waterloo West, dec. Drea Lamb, Oskaloosa, 7-0 in quarterfinal; Joe Picchiotti, Pleasant Valley, dec. Lamb, 6-0 in consolation second round. Finishes 16-6.
