Four grapplers advance for Osky at state tourney

Oskaloosa had a fairly good day Thursday at the state wrestling tournament.

The Indians had the pair of Mason Wisse (182 pounds) and Drea Lamb (195) win in the first round while the duo of Drew Sams 9106) and skylar DeJong (120) won their first-round consolation matches to remain alive at the tournament.

Here's how The Herald area wrestlers fared Thursday

Class 3A

106 — Triston Lara, Fort Dodge, dec. Drew Sams, Oskaloosa, 8-5 in first round; Sams dec. Jake Watters, West Des Moines Dowling Catholic, 7-3 in consolation first round. Next: vs. either Adam Brown, Southeast Polk or McGwire Midkiff, Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson, in consolation second round.

120 — Paul Glynn, Bettendorf, dec. Skylar DeJong, Oskaloosa, 8-6 in first round; DeJong pinned Robbie Finch, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, 2:44 in consolation first round. Next: vs. either Nolan Hellickson, Southeast Polk, or Trevor Wharton, Indianola, in consolation second round.

182 — Mason Wisse, Oskaloosa, pinned Ross Simms, Ankeny, 2:40 in first round. Next: vs. Izaak Miller, Waverly-Shell Rock in quarterfinal on Friday.

195 — Drea Lamb, Oskaloosa, dec. Dustin Putnam, Council Bluffs, St. Albert, 5-1 in first round. Next: vs. Marcus Harringtom, Waterloo West, in quarterfinal on Friday.
