The Pella Christian girls soccer team recorded its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Des Moines North.
Marina Shannon opened the Eagles’ scoring with a goal at the 4th minute. Ashley Ambroson then scored at 28th minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead.
Abby Pleima finished the Eagles’ scoring with her goal at 34th minute. Trisha Fopma led the Eagle defense with 17 defensive stops.
Playing three games Saturday at the Southeast Polk tournament, the Eagles lost a hard-fought contest with PCM by a 4-2 score. PCM took a 2-0 halftime lead with two goals in the first seven minutes of the game. The Eagle defense held PCM scoreless for the next 38 minutes. Morgan Anderson and Pleima scored for the Eagles to tie the game. PCM then added goals at 45th and 47th minutes to win the game.
Courtney Nikkel recorded 17 defensive stops to lead the Eagle defense.
Pella Christian finished the day with a match against Davenport West. The Falcons scored early at 5:10. The remainder of the game was a battle between the two defenses, as neither team could score, resulting in a 1-0 loss for the Eagles.
Nikkel tallied 23 defensive stops for the Eagles.
“We had a good day today,” Pella Christian coach Bill Collman said. “We got our first win of the year and we got good production from our offense with five goals in the tournament. We played some really good soccer today.”
The Eagles open conference play Tuesday when they travel to Newton.
