Lynnville-Sully cruises by N. Mahaska

It was best of games, it was the worst of games.
North Mahaska coach Jeff Phillips was more to the point.
“It was ugly,” said Phillips after his Warhawks fell to the Hawks of Lynnville-Sully 55-22 in South Iowa Cedar League play.
“We came out flat-footed and we never recovered from that first quarter,” said Phillips.
North Mahaska was held to six points in the second half. Senior Conner Hehli came up one point shy of a double-double, the first time this season he did not achieve the feat.
He finished with a respectable nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Adam Pothoven followed with six points.
“I told my guys that it’s a loss, it sucks, but let’s put it behind us and get the next one,” said Phillips.
Meanwhile, rival Lynnville-Sully was led by senior T.J. Cunningham with 14 points, Ben Trettin 10 and Kyle Van Dyke and Jake Brand each added eight.
“We came out and played really well tonight,” said Lynnville-Sully coach Nick Harthoorn after Friday’s win. “Offensively we got things going, got the ball moving, and attacked inside out. T.J. does a nice job for us. He’s our point guard and leader and played for us. He got other guys involved and we really nice team basketball tonight.”
One bright spot the Warhawks had against the Hawks was an 8-0 to start the second quarter, which forced an Lynnville-Sully timeout. They were able to turn the tables and outscored the Warhawks 10-1 to take the game to halftime.
“We got stuck at 23 points,” said Harthoorn. “I think we shot to many quick outside shots so continued to move the ball, take it to the hole, and that really paid off for us.”
Both teams will have a two-week layoff between games for the holidays with things to improve.
