Warhawks, Rockets win one each at tourney


North Mahaska and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont took part in a baseball tournament Saturday in Grinnell.
Both teams posted a win over Nevada while both lost to Grinnell.
The Warhawks had a 6-5 win over the Cubs and fell to ther Tigers 13-3. The Rockets shut out Nevada 4-0 and took a hard-fought 3-2 defeat to Grinnell.
North Mahaska scored four runs in the third inning to beat Nevada. Trent Roose doubled , scored a run and drove in another for the Warhawks. Zach Anderson scored twice, had one RBI and collected a single. Beau Freeborn scored a run, as did A.J. Hibler who also had a single and two runs batted in. Taylor Legvold and Brock Pollpeter both had a single as Jacob Dahm and Adam Pothoven both scored a run. Connor Hehli, despite not getting a hit in the game, had two RBI.
Pollpeter earned the win by going the seven innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, walking seven and striking out four.
North Mahaska struggled in the 10-run loss to the Tigers. It had three hits in the game — singles by Hehli and Pollpeter, and a triple by Roose. Roose, Pollpeter and Andy Pothoven all drove in a run while scoring the runs were Roose, Andy Pothoven and Hehli.
Taking the loss was Andy Pothoven, who went 5 2/3 innings, gave up 13 runs on 10 hits, walked three and fanned three.
The Rockets’ Lewis Winkleman threw a three-hitter against Nevada as he walked two and struck out one.
He got offensive support from Christian Bambrook, who had two singles and drove in a pair of runs. He also scored a run as Cory Archer also had two hits in the contest and scored a run. Chance Wursta had a single and a run scored while Cole Maines singled twice and added an RBI. Jackson Voyles and Trevor Swartz each drove in a run and had a single. In the loss to Grinnell, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont managed six hits with Bambrook getting two doubles. He also scored a run as did Jevin Jensen. Maines garnered two hits while Archer and Swartz each had a single. Maines and Swartz were credited with an RBI apiece.
Jensen suffered the loss as he went the first 5 1/3 innings. He gave up the three runs on six hits, walked four and struck out one. Levi Johnston struck out one in his 2/3 of an inning.
