Drag racing legend “Big Daddy” Don Garlits made an appearance in Oskaloosa Friday.
Garlits, along with former NHRA and Hall of Fame announcer Bob Frey, were part of a press conference at Musco Lighting on Friday, which included a meet and greet for fans.
The event also included Garlits' “Swamp Rat” dragster, which he would “cackle” for for fans.
“We have a lot of fun with it,” said Garlits after fans heard his vehicle “cackle.”
Friday's press conference focused on the Musco Lighting “Night of Fire,” which is slated to take place Saturday, July 6, at Eddyville Raceway Park. The feature show at this event will start at 6 p.m. To find out more about the Musco Lighting “Night of Fire,” visit http://www.eddyvilleraceway.com.
In a Herald interview, Garlits noted that he likes having the opportunity to talk to fans at an event like the one planned at Eddyville Raceway Park on Saturday.
“So, I enjoy this the most,” said Garlits.
At the press conference, Garlits said the sport of drag racing wasn't anything like it is today when it first started. Garlits would also go on to note some of the “big moments” in his career during Friday's press conference.
During Friday's press conference, Frey said the chance to work at the Eddyville Raceway Park this weekend was something he couldn't pass up. Frey also noted that he likes to inform and entertain when working as an announcer.
