Osky freshmen win twice in recent games

OSKALOOSA —

The Oskaloosa freshman softball team faced seven opponents in recent weeks, winning twice and tying once to go along with five losses.

Oskaloosa lost to the Rockets 12-0 with Natasha Shipp getting the only hit and stole two bases. Josie Bunnell pitched two innings, allowed six runs on four hits, walked one and struck out four. Nicole Strasser recorded one inning pitched, also allowed six runs on four hits, walked two and fanned two.
The Indians lost to Knoxville 10-0 with Anna Jones getting two singles and one stolen base while Shipp stole a base. Jones went five innings in the pitcher’s circle, gave up 10 runs on eight hits, issued eight walks and struck out three.
Oskaloosa tied Norwalk 5-5 in a game that had the Indians outhitting the Warriors 6-4. Devan Welch had a pair of singles and scored twice as Loghan Hunt singled, stole a base and scored a run. Krissy McCombs had one hit and scored two runs as Madison Braden and Baylee Crawford both singled. Bunnell stole two bases as Jones had one stolen base. Jones went five innings, allowed five runs on four hits, struck out one while walking six.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s pitcher had a no-hitter in a 12-0 win over Oskaloosa in the Eddyville Freshman Tournament. Braden was the only baserunner for the Indians after being hit by a pitch. Jones pitched three innings, gave up 12 runs on six hits, walked three and struck out one.
“Eddyville is another quality program that has continued to improve throughout the years,” Oskaloosa coach Dana Van Renterghem said. “They had a very solid pitcher for an eighth-grader, and their bats were above and beyond the norm.”
