Two-a-days start preseason for Penn men’s soccer team

OSKALOOSA —

The William Penn men’s soccer team has been on the pitch since Monday, beginning to build the foundation for its 2013 campaign.
Interim head coach Raphael Martinez is excited with the prospects of the new season.
“We gave the guys a fitness program to follow throughout the summer,” Martinez said. “For the most part, they came back in great shape so we are able to hit the ground running.”
There are a lot of fresh faces on the field for the team, highlighted by nearly a dozen foreign newcomers. That added culture has made this group fun to be around to start camp.
“All of these guys are excited,” Martinez said. “You can tell these guys love to play together and there is a great camaraderie already.”
The Statesmen will continue to train as they gear up for their first game at Waldorf on Aug. 24.
