Penn women’s soccer begins camp

William Penn University

OSKALOOSA —

The Statesmen women’s soccer team has begun its training camp at the Lacey Recreational Complex.
William Penn coach Willie McGowan is pleased with the early results from his players.
“We just started Tuesday with a lot of testing,” McGowan said. “As a coaching staff we are very pleased with the progress so far.”
McGowan is also excited for all of the new talent that this squad has in the early going.
“The quality of soccer is vastly improved from the last couple of years,” McGowan explained. “The returners have become excited and are showing good leadership on the field.
Although this week’s temperatures are on the cooler side for the Dog Days of Summer, McGowan is still preaching the basics of hydration and taking care of the body in camp.
“We are starting to have players get sore on the field and pulling some muscles,” McGowan said. “We are encouraging them to hydrate off the field to take care of their bodies and keep them healthy.”
