Moravia surprises 12th-ranked EBF


The 12th-ranked (2A) Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont softball team received a surprise when they traveled to Moravia for nonconference softball action Monday.  
A fourth-inning rally allowed the Mohawks to score the 3-1 win.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (24-7, 7-2) scored a run in their first at bat and held the Mohawks at bay until the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fourth, Moravia used a three-run rally to pull off the win over the Rockets,
Moravia’s freshman pitcher, Autumn McDanel, allowed just four hits to the Rockets. She struck out seven batters and yielded no walks. Moravia scored their three runs on seven hits off from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont pitcher Nataliah Hopkins. Hopkins also walked no one and struck out seven.
Sadie Baugher had a hit and scored the only run of the night for Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. 
Sam Williams had three hits and joined Katelynn Tracy had a triple for Moravia.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont will meet league-leading Clarke in a key South Central Conference tilt in a makeup contest.
