Mahaska United attended the 10th Annual Shoot the Moon tournament looking to continue their undefeated 2012 fall season. Group play started late friday night with extremely cold temps but came out on fire scoring 15 goals and shut out Carlisle. Saturday started with a 9-1 victory over Bondurant and finished that afternoon by unleashing another flurry of goals to produce a 18-0 win over Dallas Center Grimes and advanced into Sunday’s Championship match vs home team Adel who had also run the table with a 3-0 record in group play.
“Our boys were looking forward to the oportunity to meet up with Adel again since they had knocked us out of the championship last year,” Mahaska United coach Loren Lammers said.
Mahaska United started the attack with three early goals and cruised to a 6-2 performance to win their fourth fall tournament championship and completed its undefeated 27-0 season that produced 334 goals while only giving up 18.
“We are proud of our boys effort to accomplish the goals set at the start of this year as they continue to improve each step towards the goal of a state championship,” Lammers said.
Mahaska United completed the 2012 season with a 60-3-1 record and seven tournament championships. They will take a few weeks off before starting skill training and some winter matchs at the Pac Center.
The application to enter into the Iowa Soccer Association's Premier Soccer Leauge for statewide division 1 level play for u11 age bracket for the fall 2013 season will be filed in the next month.
“We would like to thank Mahaska County Soccer Club, MCRF, Musco and all the community for the oportunity the Lacey Complex provides our youth to play soccer,” Lammers said.
