Indians go 1-1 at own classic

Oskaloosa didn't have a great beginning to its classic on Saturday at Lacey Complex.
The seventh-ranked Indians lost 3-0 to Keokuk in their first game of the day and saw third baseman Peyton Zickefoose getting hit on the left elbow during the game.
Zickefoose didn't let her sore elbow from helping the Indians (21-2) beat No. 6 (Class 1) Wayne 3-1 in the tournament finale.
The junior hit her first home run of the season in the fourth inning while Alexis Groet was back to her old form with a 10-strikeout, three-hit performance.
Groet pitched four innings of no-hit ball as she bounced back from a seven-walk effort the night before against Pella.
"Peyton has been stroking the ball well so that's big to have her hit in that clean-up spot and come through for us," Oskaloosa coach Jay Harms said. "We needed someone to wake us up. We really struggled against Keokuk then be able to come back.
"(Breanna Fortune) is a pretty good pitcher. For a 1A school, she throws the ball well. I told the kids she had a lot of strikeouts this season. She can throw and it was good to see we could come back from that loss to Keokuk and get right back in the win column."
Oskaloosa added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as Callie Arnold singled to start the inning and Zickefoose reached on an error. Harms replaced Zickefoose with Alexis Vroegh and sent Brooke Caves to the plate to bat for Aubrey Miller. While Caves didn't a hit, the sophomore was able to move the runners up a base and Alexis Westercamp singled home Arnold and Vroegh for the 3-0 lead going to the last inning.
The Lady Falcons did manage to touch Groet (11-1) with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Fortune had her second double of the game and Sarah Norris took her spot on second base. Shania Austin singled Norris home and Austin came home on an Oskaloosa error.
