The Oskaloosa Herald
Oskaloosa coach Greg Walter was a bit unsure how his team would play following a 2-0 win over Chariton the night before when the Indians hosted Ottumwa at Lacey Complex Friday night.
The Indians won their second straight game as Andie Reif won a battle in front of the Ottumwa goal just 41 seconds before halftime in a 2-1 victory.
The contest was a struggle as a strong northeasterly wind made it tough for either team to score a goal.
Not that Oskaloosa (2-0) didn’t have any chances.
It repeatedly put pressure on Ottumwa goalkeeper Averi Cash as the Bulldog junior had numerous saves.
But the Indians were able to get on the scoreboard first as sophomore Keely Blanchard, who also had a goal in the junior varsity game, snapped the scoreless tie in the 24th minute with th assist going to Ciara Conley for the 1-0 lead.
Ottumwa tied it in the 26th minute as Oskaloosa was called fot a hand ball in the box and Kathy Lopez booted the penalty kick high over freshman goalkeeper Sandra Blom’s head for the tying goal.
The game remained tied until the final minute of the half following a shot on goal by the Indians. Reif battled for the ball and eventually won it and put the ball back in the goal for the game-winner.
Neither team was able to score in the second half as the defenses and good goalkeeping kep coming up with stellar plays.
Blanchard and Jackie Reif accounted for goals as the Oskaloosa junior varsity beat Ottumwa 2-0. getting the assists wee Katelyn Andeson and Taylor Seaton.
The Indians begin Little Hawkeye Conference play Tuesday night with a home matchup with Knoxville.
