William Penn University
Carly Land did a lot more than just pick up the slack for William Penn last week as she was named Midwest Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Land earned her first career POW honor after leading the Statesmen (15-7) to a 3-1 record last week.
The senior drew extended work as two-time MCC Pitcher of the Year Jennifer Whitehead battled through an illness. She tossed a total of 20 2/3 frames, going 2-1 with a 1.02 earned run average.
Land recorded her first shutout of the season on Thursday with a three-hit performance against Graceland and then notched her first save against Dickinson State (N.D.) Friday.
For the year, Land is 8-4 with a 1.23 ERA in 74 innings of work. She has posted 52 strikeouts with 23 walks and opponents are hitting only .217 against her. The senior has thrown ten complete games.
The award is the third for William Penn this year.
