Fourth-quarter scoring woes stop Osky girls

Oskaloosa was so close of getting in the win column for the first time since the season opener against Centerville on Nov. 26.
The Indians trailed Pella Christian by a single point going to the fourth quarter Friday night.
Oskaloosa (1-15, 0-10) managed just two points in the final 8:19 of action to fall to the Eagles 46-33.
“We played three really tremendous quarters of basketball,” Oskaloosa coach Steve Kaisand said. “Then the fourth quarter we couldn’t get any shots to fall and they (Eagles) did a better job on second-chance rebounding. Part of that might have been a little fatigue on our part. We had a lot of girls who played tough minutes. It was a tough basketball game and I was proud how our girls played physically and played the way it was being called.”
The game went back-and-forth for much of the first hal with the biggest lead being four points which Pella Christian had twice.
The Indians scored four straight points to tie the game at 11 at the 3:34 mark of the second quarter on a free throw by Taylor Richardson and a 3-pointer from Asia LAudermilch.
An offensive outback by Alexis Westercamp gave the Indians the lead again at 13-11.
The teams were knotted at 15 at intermission.
The third quarter was much like the opening half as neuter team could get total control of the contest.
There were five ties and seven lead changes in that quarter with Pella Christian getting the final lead on an offensive outback by Marina Shannon at the third-quarter buzzer.
After that, it was all Pella Christian as it scored the first seven points of the final stanza before Chace Moyer’s offensive putback with 5:27 remaining to cut the Eagles’ lead to 39-33.
That would be the final basket the Indians would get the rest of the game.
