Oskaloosa began a new era on Dec. 7 when its co-ed swim team took to the pool at Newton.
The Indians finished fifth in the six-team meet.
Oskaloosa coach Laura Brummel was pleased how the team competed in first meet.
"Everyone swam great. We didn't have anyone medal in this meet, but they put up a good fight and hung in with the competition," she said. "We are looking forward to putting in more yards in the pool, and continuing to improve."
The top finishers for the varsity were David Anderson in the 50 freestyle in 25.55 and John Hammes in the 100 backstroke in the time of 1:12.05.
The Oskaloosa junior varsity had three top-five finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. The medley team of Bethany Rowley, Kamron VanHulzen, Samantha Braundmeier and Jeb Shaw placed fourth in the time of 2:30.15 while the same quartet swam 2:13.64 to come in fifth in the 200 freestyle relay. Shaw was third in the 100 freestyle in the time of 1:14.34.
