Racing action at the Southern Iowa Speedway resumed after a break with Sprint Week.

The action was just as exciting with five classes in action.

Race fans entering into the grandstand had a chance to get two weeks of the Oskaloosa Herald free of charge just by filling out a card and the young race fans got a chance to win back-to-school backpacks.

The racing action kicked off with the Karl Chevrolet USRA stock car feature with Matt Greiner taking his second straight win at the Southern Iowa Speedway. Greiner held off several challenges from Oskaloosa driver Brain Mitrisin, who would later end his run with mechanical problems. The second spot went to Oskaloosa driver Howard Gordon Jr. with AJ Johnson of Oskaloosa taking the third spot and Rick Todd of Des Moines in fourth.

The Mid-America 305 Sprints paid their second appearance of the season with Tasker Phillips staying perfect with the win. Phillips battled with Chad Huston of Jamesport, Mo., and Louis Lynch of Glenwood, Mo., who tried to hold off the young gun just turning 16 years of age on Tuesday and has won three out of the last four outings. Huston held on for the runner-up spot with Lynch in third and last year’s champion, Mike Mayberry of Fremont, in fourth.

The Carter International and Karl Chevrolet USRA B-Modifieds was a thriller with Bill Gibson of Knoxville looking to the checkers, but Andrew Schroeder of Keswick was the spoiler after making the pass in turns three and four for the win. Gibson took second with Leroy Groenendyk of Oskaloosa in third and Ottumwa racer Cory Brown in fourth.

The USRA hobby stock feature went to Jason McDaniel of Eldon, who took the lead on lap five from Bob Lynch of Ottumwa and Dustin Griffiths, who were battling for the top spot but the racing action was slowed for about five minutes on lap 10 for rain.

The action resumed with McDaniel taking his 15th win and trying to add to his run at the USRA national championship with Agency driver Danny Thrasher in second with Griffiths in third and Lynch taking fourth.

The final feature was the MUSCO Lighting USRA Modifieds with Colt Mather taking the win after leading all 18 laps with last year’s champion, Brandon Banks of Washington, in second with Josh Truman of Indianola taking the third spot with a brand new car he debuted with a third-place finish and Oskaloosa driver Steven Blattler in fourth.

With the weather trying to spoil the night, the mechanics’ races will run next week along with the female drivers trying there luck in the power puff races.
