Published August 12, 2008 09:23 am - While the 2008 High School drag racing season came to an end Friday night, there was still plenty of action at Eddyville Raceway Park last weekend. High School season comes to a close at ERP By DENIS CURRIER The Oskaloosa Herald EDDYVILLE — The 2008 High School class came to a close on Friday night.
Current point leader Kyle Kramer from Pella left the door open as he went out in the first round of elimination. But the other racers weren’t able to take advantage of it. Ethan Brinegar from Moulton faced off against Mike Mahaffey from Ottumwa. Brinegar, having the slower dial-in, took off first down the track with Mahaffey giving chase. Brinegar had the better reaction time and Mahaffey slowed down letting Brinegar claim the win. Over 120 kids showed up for the MX2 NHRA Division 5 Junior Dragster Hawkeye Challenge at Eddyville for two days of racing. Saturday started off with three classes of index racing, an all-run bracket class, Jr. Comp and a Outlaw 330 class. In the 7.90 class, Austin Surhe from Warden, Ill., went against Rachel Krug from Mt. Pleasant. Krug ran closer to index, but a slower reaction time was enough for Surhe to claim the win. Austin Sharpe from Ohaha, Neb., went against Tyler Banks from Oak Grove, Mo., in the 8.90 class. Both drivers broke-out with Sharpe breaking out the least and getting the win. Samantha Little from Stilwell, Kan., went against Jason Azbill Jr., from Cedar Falls, in the 12.90 index class. Azbill Jr., had the better reaction time but went too fast breaking out by just .0075 giving the win to Little. Eddyville Raceway Park Drag Results Friday Results High School Winner: Ethan Brinegar, Moulton, 9.93 dial-in, 10.056 elapsed time, .081 reaction time, 69.96 mph. Runner-up: Mike Mahaffey, Ottumwa, 9.08 dial-in, 9.274 elapsed time, .178 reaction time, 77.73 mph. Saturday Results
