Amy Lynn Hughes Pettyjohn, daughter of Howard and Bettie Thomas Hughes, was born May 6, 1975, in Oskaloosa. She attended Oskaloosa schools and was a 1993 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. She married Larry Pettyjohn on July 24, 1998; they made their home in Beacon. Through the years Amy worked several jobs including: Dairy Queen, Breadeaux Pizza, Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, Big Ed’s Barbeque and Pella Plastics. She furthered her education at Indian Hills Community College and graduated in 2005 as a registered nurse. She started her nursing career at the Knoxville Hospital; most recently she assisted as a substitute nurse at the Oskaloosa Elementary School and worked part-time for Dr. Dennis-Smithart. Amy was excited to have completed training for tax preparation and was ready to begin employment at H & R Block.

Amy loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and was willing to help anytime her sisters needed her. She had a love for John Deere Tractors and Mickey Mouse. Amy dreamed of owning a horse from the time she was very little and was excited to have her dream come true when they added Cinnamon to the family. She enjoyed fishing, riding four-wheelers and camping down at her cabin on the river. Her other favorite pastimes included scratch-off tickets and going to the casino with her Grandma Thomas. Family was always the most important thing in Amy’s life; her children were her entire world.
