OSKALOOSA — Wilma Phillips, 72, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. 

She was born April 19, 1940, at Montezuma, the daughter of Forest and Helen Wright Sharer. She graduated from the Montezuma High School with the class of 1958. On July 22, 1958, at high noon, Wilma was united in marriage to Robert Phillips at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following their marriage, they moved to San Diego, Calif., while Robert was in the Navy. Upon Robert’s discharge from the Navy, the two of them moved back to Searsboro. Wilma worked as a C.N.A. at Montezuma Nursing and Rehab for a short time. Wilma delighted in caring for her home and family, she was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed quilting, photography, scrapbooking, puzzles, sewing and making clothing. She truly enjoyed spending time with her husband and best friend, Robert. Wilma was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. She was a prayer warrior with a deep rooted faith, she and Robert spent many hours sharing the story of Christ with others. Wilma was a kind person who was always willing to give and help when she could. She loved children and had a very kind way with all of them. Wilma delighted in spending time with her grandchildren.

Her family includes her husband of over 54 years, Robert Phillips, of Oskaloosa; three children, Rick (and Charlotte) Phillips, of Pella, Susan Heinle, of Oskaloosa, and Robert Phillips II, of Council Bluffs; five grandchildren, Ricky Phillips Jr., whom Wilma and Bob raised, Matthew (and Kyla) Miller, Lance Baker, and Dylan Baker; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Tammy Miller; and a sister, Lana McKnight.

A life celebration service will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Michael Dotson officiating. As was Wilma’s wish her body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Convoy of Hope.
