Lastly he worked for 12 years at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella, retiring from there in 2004. Don enjoyed going to auctions, woodworking, going to the races and watching Nascar on television. He was always on the hunt for a new pulley to add to his collection. He delighted in spending time with his family and friends. Military honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. As a final act of kindness and generosity Don has deeded his body to the University of Iowa for medical research. The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel from 12 p.m. on Monday until service time at 2 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska County Relay for Life.
