Memorable wagon train adventures included the Mormon Trail, California Trail, Bozeman Trail, Military Trail and many trips with the Ox Bow Company from southern Iowa. He was also an active in civic organizations such as the Historical Society, New Sharon Alumni Association and the Capri Theater Board. He was a member of the Harvest Community Fellowship Church.
