LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Jerita (Jeri) Lee Norton, 62, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, of natural causes at her home in Louisville, Ky.
She was born July 11, 1951 in Oskaloosa, to Darlene and Bill Norton, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two siblings and their spouses, Lynn and Al Hodgeman, of New Sharon, and Jeff and Sally Norton, of Des Moines. She also leaves behind a nephew, three nieces and a nephew-in-law: AJ Hodgeman, of Oskaloosa, Kylie Hodgeman Sandor and husband, Rob Sandor, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Emily and Carrie Norton, of Des Moines, all of whom she adored. She also leaves behind a group of friends in Louisville, whom truly were her family.
Jerita graduated from Oskaloosa High School in the Class of '69. She received her B.S of social work from the University of Iowa in 1973. She was baptized, confirmed and remained a long-distance member of her family church, St. John Lutheran Church, in Oskaloosa.
Jerita lived in Louisville, Ky., for over 38 years and dearly loved living there. She had a set of wonderful, loving friends to whom she was truly loyal for all of those years and depended on. During those years in Louisville, she worked for Wesley House (a children’s home), St. Joseph’s Children’s Home and most recently the U.S. Postal Service. She was an avid University of Louisville fan, loved golfing, listening to music of all genres, photography, traveling, and spending time with her family and dear friends. She was an animal lover, especially of dogs, and a sports enthusiast. She held a special place in her heart for a golden retriever therapy dog named Joey, whom she treated as her own.
A memorial service was held for Jerita Saturday, Aug. 17, at St. John Lutheran Church. She was laid to rest with her parents and grandparents in Forest Cemetery.
