PARMA, Ohio —

Wilma Mary Ballinger, 88, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Seasons of Life Hospice in Parma, Ohio.

She was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Givin, daughter of Melville C. and Mary Chilton Ellis.

She graduated from Oskaloosa High School and the American Institute of Business (now AIB College of Business) in Des Moines. She was employed by Attorney H. S. Life in Oskaloosa, Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and Akron Public Schools, Mack Truck and St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio. She also sold World Book Encyclopedias in Akron.

She was married to Joseph Ballinger of Akron on May 28, 1948, at Central Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. They lived together in Akron until Joe died in 1992.

She was a long-time member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Akron and later attended the North Royalton United Methodist Church in North Royalton, Ohio.

She enjoyed big band music, square dancing, needlework, antique collecting, traveling, quilting, attending Red Hat Society Chapter meetings, following the Cleveland Cavaliers, and caring for her family.

She is survived by her sons the Rev. John (Kathy) Ballinger, of West Salem, Ohio, and Thomas Ballinger, of Parma Heights, Ohio, grandsons David Ballinger and Mark Ballinger, of Columbus, Ohio, and granddaughter Katelyn Ballinger Sampsel and great-grandson Connor Sampsel, of West Salem.

Also surviving are brothers Ernest (Geraldine) Ellis, of West Des Moines, Robert (Elizabeth) Ellis, of Oskaloosa, and sister Marilyn (Frank) Scott ,of Oskaloosa. She is also survived by several cousins and 10 nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Marion, Howard, John and Willard, one nephew, and one niece.

Private services will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg, Ohio

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Wilma’s name to Seasons of Life Hospice, 9511 W. Pleasant Valley Road, Parma, OH 44130-6002.
