DES MOINES —
Phillip "Phil" Milam, 34, of West Des Moines and formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
He was born April 26, 1979, in Oskaloosa, the son of Daniel and Becky Phillips Milam. Phil graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1997. He earned his bachelor’s degree from William Penn University in Oskaloosa. On May 25, 2002, he was united in marriage to Leigh Ann Rankin on Sanibel Island in Florida. Phil was an accountant for several companies. In high school he was involved in swim team, he also coached swim team and offered swimming lessons in Oskaloosa and Des Moines. He enjoyed watching Nascar, teaching his son's Tae Kwon Do lessons and assisting with the production team at Lutheran Church of Hope. Phil was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Phil will be remembered by his wife, Leigh Anne Milam, of Des Moines; son, Grant at home in Des Moines; a son, Joshua Den Hartog, of Oskaloosa; his mother, Becky Jacobs, of Oskaloosa; his maternal grandfather, Wayne Phillips in Oklahoma; an uncle and aunt, Arlen and Luann Phillips, of University Park; and many additional aunts, uncles, cousins and by many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Milam; his brother, Dave Milam; his maternal grandmother, Betty Phillips; and his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Flossie Milam. A Celebrations of Life Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 17, at Lutheran Church of Hope. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lutheran Church of Hope.
