PATTY ANN MAAS

FEB. 4, 1935 — MAY 10, 2013

EDDYVILLE — Patty Ann Bruch-Maas  died May 10, 2013, at 2:47 a.m., in Washington, Iowa.

She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on Feb. 4th, 1935, to William and Dorothy Marie (Winningham) Thrasher.

Her children, which she often referred to by their birth order are: No. 1 Lori Daniels, No. 2 Sue Bruch (Martin Fitch), No. 3 Donald (Cathy) Bruch Jr., No. 4 Kris (Ron) Nunemaker, No. 5 Karolin DeJong, No. 6 Brenda (Larry) Fishback, No. 7 Debra (Scott) Rurup.  Included is a special neighborhood honorary daughter, No. 8 Bevy Lehman, who was always the first to hold Patty’s new baby.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren: Bubba Knapp, Jeremy Bruch, Jennifer Foster, Jeremiah Johnston, Jason Thomas, Lyndsy McGlothlen-Fadl, Draik Nunemaker, Ayla Bixler, Timmy DeJong, Jr., Caitlin, Stephanie and Kyle Fishback, and Ben and Luc Rurup.  Six great-grandchildren: Austin, Madison and Annie Knapp, Kiana Boots, Kindsy Fadl, and Miah Bixler. Patty is also survived by one brother, William (Phyllis) Thrasher Jr. and one sister Sherri (Leonard) Divich.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: Donald Bruch Sr. and Jerry Maas, and her beloved dog, Buddy.

In October 1974 she became the owner of the Welcome Inn Bar and Restaurant in Eddyville.  The Friday night fish frys would have the customers lined out the door.

Patty started Eddyville’s “Operation Santa Claus”.  She believe no child should be without a Christmas gift.

Patty was instrumental in starting Eddy-Fest, benefiting several Eddyville organizations.

She was a member of the Iowa Restaurant and Beverage Association.  In February of 1988, she was honored as the Beverage Person of the Year for 1987.

Patty sold the Welcome Inn in 1992 and then went to work for the Eddyville/Blakesburg school system in the cafeteria.

When her health declined she moved to the Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.  She enjoyed going out on family visits and the trips to the casino.  We will all miss her smile and laughter.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 13, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel, with family members present from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Memorials can be made to the Eddyville Library or the Heartland Humane Society.  The Eddyville Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with services.
