DES MOINES — Marlene J. Lierow passed away, on Jan. 16, 2014.
She was born on her parent’s (Floyd and Martha Rodgers) farm on Nov. 27, 1933, near Oskaloosa. Marlene married James D. Lierow on June 8, 1952, in Oskaloosa. Jim and Marlene farmed in Oskaloosa before moving to Ottumwa, Iowa to manage a fuel business they purchased. They later moved to Des Moines in 1968 where Jim worked for the U.S. Army and Marlene held secretarial positions with the United Methodist church and conference and later the Des Moines Public schools until her retirement in 1995.
Marlene is survived by her son James Jr. (Debra) Lierow, of Cooperstown, N.Y.; daughter Judy (Bruce) Scapecchi of Des Moines; son, Jeffrey D. Lierow of Des Moines; daughter-in-law Marcy Sherfey, Sherwood, Ore.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jerry D. Lierow, and husband, Jim.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, 6205 SW 9th St., followed by burial at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation was held two hours prior to the service Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church.
