George H. Osing, 79, of 22444 87th St., formerly of Eddyville, died at 5:25 a.m. July 28, 2013, at Monroe Care Center in Albia.
He was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Wapello County to George W. and Marguerite Scott Osing. He married Eunice Boyer on March 2, 1957.
George was a resident of Eddyville most of his life before moving to rural Blakesburg in 1999. A 1951 graduate of Eddyville High School, he served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years during the Korean Conflict. He worked construction over 20 years having owned and operated A&O Construction. George had also worked in the carpentry shop at Pella Corporation retiring in 2002.
He was a member of First Pentecostal Assembly of God where he served on the church board and had traveled on mission trips.
George had been Fire Chief and was a member of the Eddyville Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. He had been the mayor of Eddyville, had served on the city council, was a board member of the Eddyville School Board for several terms and had been a reserve police officer in Eddyville. He was an avid camper, camping at the Iowa State Fair for over 40 years. He loved to hunt and fish and was most happy when he was outdoors and when he was watching his grandkids’ sporting events. George was a handyman and was able to fix about anything.
Surviving is his wife, Eunice; two sons, Randy Osing and Doug (Lynne) Osing, both of Blakesburg; two grandchildren, Griffin and Gannon Osing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Willa Mae Brower; a brother-in-law, Virgil Brower; and a niece, Michelle Franklin.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Pentecostal Assembly of God with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion and Walter B. Schaffer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
