PHYLLIS BEASLEY

FEB. 12, 1949 — MARCH 3, 2013

COUNCIL BLUFFS — Phyllis Beasley, 80, of Council Bluffs and formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.

Phyllis Ann Beasley, daughter of John Bunker Williams Sr. and Nellie M. Ross Williams, was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Oskaloosa. Phyllis married Russell Dean Beasley Sr., Feb. 28, 1949, in Oskaloosa. They made their home in rural Oskaloosa. Phyllis worked as a seamstress for at brief time at the Continental Overall Factory and then was employed in the Housekeeping Department at Mahaska County Hospital, where she worked for many years. When her husband was still alive, she and Russell enjoyed square dancing for many years. While living in the country, Phyllis planted a large vegetable garden and also raised chickens. She canned and froze countless quarts of produce and also sold eggs and produce in town. Phyllis was always looking very neat and tidy and she was as particular about her home and yard as she was about her appearance. Phyllis was a member of the Open Bible Church and was very faithful in reading her Bible and she will be remembered as a very generous person. In 2005, Phyllis moved to Council Bluffs to be closer to her daughter.

Her family includes her children: Russell and Kathy Beasley, of Eddyville, and Shirley and Gordon Childs, of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Karen McKane, of Omaha, Neb.; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Williams, of New Sharon.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Russell of 47 years, who died March 24, 1996; a son, John Beasley on Jan. 13, 2005; two brothers: John Williams Jr. and Robert as an infant; and two sisters: Audrey McDonough and Jeletta Dixon.

Memorial services will be held for Phyllis at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 22, at the Open Bible Church with Pastor Dwayne Poe officiating. As was her wish, her body has been cremated and burial of her ashes will be in Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Bible Church.
