HELEN SNOWBARGER

Helen Snowbarger, 89, of Oskaloosa, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa.

 Helen Louise Snowbarger, daughter of George Washington and Nina (Wasson) Warnock, was born, June 9, 1923, in Ottumwa.  She was the youngest of 11 children and as a child lived in Lineville.  As a young lady, she lived with her sister in Ottumwa and worked at the Kides Restaurant.  Helen married Lester Snowbarger and to that union two children were born; she later married Lyle Hubby and he preceded her in death.  She raised her family in Ottumwa and Oskaloosa and later worked as a receptionist at the King Lear Motel, retiring in 1991.  Helen enjoyed playing bridge and golf and was a Chicago Cubs fan; she also enjoyed supporting her grandchildren in their musical and sports activities.  She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.

 Her family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Lee Wymore and a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Carol Snowbarger, all of Oskaloosa.  She was blessed with five grandchildren: Meghan (Jonathan) Brand of Ames; Mathew Wymore of Madison, Wis.; Jennifer (Michael) Comfort, of Oskaloosa; Elizabeth (Cory) McBurney, of Cedar; and Jessica (Brandon) Graham, of Oskaloosa; and three great-grandchildren: Kate and Natalie McBurney and Ryan Comfort.  

 She was preceded in death by her parents, her 10 brothers and sisters, including Ruth Reese and Doris Stober, of Ottumwa, and Ralph “Tubby” Warnock, of Cedar Rapids.

 Funeral services for Helen will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel.  As was her wish, her body will be cremated following the service and private burial of her cremated remains will be held at Forest Cemetery at a later time.   Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Activity Fund.   Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting the online obituary guest book at www.gvlfuneralchapel.com.
