Valerian J. “Larry” Throener, 72, Chili, died on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at House of the Dove, Marshfield, Wis.

Larry was born on Aug. 19, 1941, in West Point, Nb., to Anton and Ann (Chudomelka) Throener. He was a graduate of Guardian Angels High School in West Point. After his education, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Whetstone as an electrician. After his honorable discharge, he was employed in steel erection for 17 years in several states and concluded his employment by working at Weyerhaeuser / Marshfield Door Systems for 23 years until he and his wife retired together in 2006. He liked to tell people they walked out together holding hands.

He was united in marriage to Alona D. Day on May 4, 1969, in Oskaloosa.

Larry loved to watch and film the wildlife from his deck and enjoyed feeding the chipmunks by hand. He was also an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alona (Day) and their son, Cole. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Judy Anderson (Roger Ostlund), and his brother and sister-in-law, Dan (Karen) Throener.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Terrance, Darrell and Lauren, his father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Ruth Day, and a brother-in-law, Jerry (Jody) Day.

Rembs Funeral Home of Marshfield, Wis., is assisting the family with the arrangements.
