Linda Van Devender, 66, of What Cheer, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family or to the What Cheer United Methodist Church. Friends may offer condolences to the family at www.hollandcoblefuneralhome.com.
Linda Sue Van Devender was born in Oskaloosa on Oct. 24, 1946, the daughter of Wayne Rea and Trula Bearden. She was a 1964 graduate of Tri-County High School. Later that some year Linda was united in marriage to Larry Lee Van Devender on Oct. 3, 1964. Over the years, she worked at Star Inn and What Cheer Inn. Most recently Linda retired as the Assistant Manager at the Casey’s store in What Cheer. She was a member of the What Cheer United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 13 years. Linda enjoyed gardening, her flowers and helping who ever she could as often as she could. Linda lived each day of her life as a devoted mother and grandmother. She made it quite clear ones family is the only true happiness in life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a husband Larry Van Devender and a brother, John Rea.
Linda is survived by two sons; Dan (Jennifer) Van Devender, of Oskaloosa, and Slate Sweat, What Cheer; a daughter, Tami (Dan) Tish, of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren: Keegan, Dalton, Macie, Kiersten, Dawson, Kiah, Ty and Cari.
