Ann Davis, 72, of New Sharon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

A private graveside service for the family will be held at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. A celebration of life gathering for family and friends will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the McVay Center in New Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House of Oskaloosa. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elizabeth Ann Davis, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Brackney) Simmons, was born on Dec. 9, 1940, in Oskaloosa. She was a 1959 graduate of New Sharon High School. On June 21, 1959, Ann was united in marriage to Edwin Davis at the New Sharon United Methodist Church Chapel. To this union two children were born, Mike and Lisa. Ann was a housewife and a daycare provider in New Sharon for many, many years. She absolutely loved her daycare children and considered them her own. Ann was an avid reader and an excellent cook. She loved spending time with her sisters, grandchildren, children and her husband, Ed. Ann served on numerous civic committees over the years.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 54 years, Ed Davis of New Sharon; her children, Mike Davis, of Searsboro, and Lisa (Dean) Whitaker, of West Des Moines; her six grandchildren, Sheena (David) Isaacson, of West Des Moines, Whitney Davis, of West Des Moines, Brock Davis, of Taintor, Grant, Jackson and Pierce Whitaker, all of West Des Moines; her three great-grandchildren, Ava, Henry and Bruce Isaacson, all of West Des Moines; her three sisters, Vivian (John) Plate, Patty (Louie) Mitchell and Judy Bushong; two brothers-in-law, Lyle Maudlin and Robert (Vickie) Davis; a sister-in-law, Fran Davis; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Helen Simmons; two sisters, Shirley Coe and Marge Maudlin; a half-brother, Bob Simmons and two brothers-in-law, Roy Dean Coe and Lloyd “Minnie” Davis.
