OSKALOOSA — Evelyn Jansen, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at her home in Oskaloosa.
She was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Mahaska County the daughter of Monte and Rosetta Padgett Vance. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1949. Following graduation, Evelyn worked at F.W. Woolworth. On June 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to Everett Jansen in Oskaloosa. Everett died April 25, 2005. Together Evelyn and Everett farmed between Oskaloosa and Eddyville for 43 years. They moved to Oskaloosa in January of 1994. She was an active member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. Throughout her life Evelyn gave generously of her time and talents too many organizations.
Her family includes her three children, Karla (Lee) Vermeer, of Powell, Ohio, Jim (Sandy) Jansen, of Oskaloosa, and Mark Jansen, of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren, Jamie Voss, Chanda (Luke) VandeWall, Andra (Eric) Gunsolley, Craig (Stephanie) Vermeer, and Todd Vermeer (Andrea Claytor); 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lee Woerdeman, of Oskaloosa, and Peggy Vance of Harvey.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m. in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Mark Spoelstra officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery with committal services led by Pastor Doug Vander Pol. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4-7 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorial may be made to Cadets at Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
