Sandie Coder, 62, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
She was born July 16, 1951, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Ira and Violet Adams. When she was a young girl she was adopted by Ralph and Lila Dickerson. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1969. Following graduation she worked as a waitress at Perry’s Café and later Stout’s Café in Oskaloosa. On Aug. 31, 1974, she was united in marriage to Joseph Coder at the First Pentecostal Church in Oskaloosa. Following their marriage, Sandie stayed home to care for her family. After her son was grown, she went to work at Blimpie sub shop in Oskaloosa. After Blimpie closed in Oskaloosa she went to work at Wendy’s, she worked there until ill health forced her retirement. Sandie was a lifelong servant of the Lord she was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Oskaloosa where she was involved in puppet ministry and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and listening to southern gospel music. She was a wonderful cook and a talented baker, she made pies that many argued could have been store bought. She was never afraid to try a new recipe.
Her family includes her husband of over 39 years, Joe Coder, of Oskaloosa; a son and his wife, Joe “Aaron” and Jennifer Coder, of Ankeny; two grandsons, Schyler and Seth Coder; and many brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her adoptive parents, and her parents-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. in the First Pentecostal Church in Oskaloosa with Pastors Adrian Wolf and John Allard officiating. Burial will be in the Lettsville Cemtery at Letts, on Monday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 p.m. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Sunday after 12:30 p.m. and the family will be at the funeral chapel form 1:30 – 3:30 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House or the First Pentecostal Church in Oskaloosa.
