JUNE HANNA OCT. 26, 1935 -- JUNE 20, 2014

ANKENY — June Hanna, 78, of Ankeny and formerly of Roland and Oskaloosa, passed away, Friday, June 20, 2014, at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard.

June Ann Hanna, daughter of Horace and Helen (Whitehill) Steddom, was born Oct. 26, 1935, in Oskaloosa. She was a 1954 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and then furthered her education at William Penn College. Following her education she taught at Collins for one year. June married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Wayne Hanna, Aug. 19, 1956, at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. They made their home in Oskaloosa and June continued to teach, first in Cedar for a year and then in Beacon for a year. June then remained at home for several years, staying very busy caring for her home and four daughters. In 1965, the family moved to Roland. She eventually returned to work serving as a teacher’s aide at the Roland-Story School District for 30 years.

June attended the Ankeny First United Methodist Church. She was an excellent seamstress and spent many hours sewing for her daughters. She and Jerry also loved to cut and gather fire wood for their fire place; they spent many afternoon hiking around the timber together. Jerry and June lived in the same home for almost 50 years in Roland; they were delighted that still today, the fourth generations of Hanna’s is living in that home.

June’s family includes her husband of 57 years, Jerry Hanna of Ankeny; four daughters: Jill (Gene) Grimsley of Roland, Kathy (Tracy) Scebold of Story City, Jeri Ann (Tim) Sones of Ankeny and Lori (Tom) Schaeffer also of Ankeny; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister: Mary (Al) Hitt of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and sister-in-law, Evelyn Steddom of Pella.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rex Steddom.

Funeral Services for June will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center at 710 N.E. 36th St. in Ankeny with the Rev. John Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, at the church in Ankeny.
