Richard L. Strunk, 84, of Centerville passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society – Home Care and Hospice in Ottumwa.
Richard was born to Henry and Amanda (Foster) Strunk in Unionville, Iowa on May 16, 1930. The family moved to Fremont in 1935 where he received his education from Fremont High School graduating in 1948. On Feb. 9, 1952 Richard was united in marriage to June Tandy at the Fremont Methodist Church. To this union was born one child, Terry.
Richard was employed by McCurdy Seed Company in Fremont for 44 years before retiring in 1992. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted in 1954 and spent two years in Japan. In 1955 their son Terry was born. Richard saw him for the first time when he arrived home from Japan in 1956. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and welding in his spare time. He was a past member of the Fremont Methodist Church in Fre-mont and an AMVET member.
Sur-vivors include his wife of 62 years, June Strunk; son, Terry Strunk; three grandchildren, Nicholas Strunk, Melissa Strunk and Amber Strunk; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Edna Collins of Oskaloosa and Fern Lowe of Centerville. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Ruth Taylor, Lucille Gates, Robert Strunk, Floyd Strunk and Daisy Morrow.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at Cedar Township Cemetery in Fremont.
