Shirley Heinle, 75, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Shirley Jean Heinle, daughter of Paul Andrew and CeCelia (Todd) Gass, was born April 9, 1938, in New Sharon. Shirley was raised in the Montezuma area and was a 1956 graduate of Montezuma High School. After her education, Shirley worked at the Monte Tap as a waitress; it was there that she met her future husband, Ken Heinle. They married Nov. 23, 1960. They made their home in Oskaloosa, where Shirley was a homemaker and Ken operated Heinle painting. Shirley enjoyed her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was also an avid Hawkeye fan.
Her family includes her children: Ginger (Phillip) Akason, of Waukee, Paul Andrew (Joan) Heinle, of Eddyville, and Todd (Patti) Heinle, of Piqua, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Ian, Rhea, Kieren, Brenna, Evan and Lauren Heinle and Logan and Lindsey Akason; and a brother-in-law, Paul Heinle, of Marshalltown.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ken on Oct. 3, 1996, Shirley was preceded in death by three brothers: Ed, Bob and Marvin Gass and three sisters: Pauline Shearer, Doris Roberts and Marge Smith.
Graveside memorial services and burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, at Little Mount Baptist Cemetery on Diamond Trail Road near Montezuma. Family and friends may gather at the cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
