WILLIAMSBURG — John Francis Mulvihill III, 85, of Williamsburg, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Iowa City VA Hospital, surrounded by his wife and their six children.

John was born in Welton on Sept. 15, 1927, to Edna (Hill) and John Mulvihill. He grew up and attended schools in Oskaloosa. He served in the Navy and then began working for the M&StL/Chicago Northwestern Railroad in 1947. He was employed as a brakeman/conductor for 42 years.

He married Delores Andeway, daughter of Lester and Imogene Andeway, at St. Mary’s Church in Oskaloosa on June 22, 1950.

John enjoyed golf, cards, gardening, reading, fishing, and watching or listening to St. Louis Cardinals baseball. His stories, quick wit, and wry observations were appreciated by family and friends.

Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, who are thankful for his long life: his six children, Virginia Mulvihill (Larry Rodl), of Davenport, Mary (Mike) Patterson ,of Cedar Rapids, John (Kathryn) Mulvihill IV, of New Glarus, Wis., Kathleen (Mark) Splittgerber, of Des Moines, Teresa Mulvihill, of St. Louis, and Timothy (Kelly) Mulvihill, of Greenwood, Ark.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Hinmon, of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

A reception for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 16, from 2 to 4 at the American Legion Hall in Marshalltown. Memorial contributions can be made to the Williamsburg Public Library or to the American Lung Association. Arrangements handled by The Cremation Society of Iowa.
