Lee Ver Steegh, 70, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Unity Point Methodist Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel.
Lee was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa and served in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Jacksonville, Ark., 1962-1966; graduated University of Iowa in 1971 with a degree in accounting. He began his career in public accounting as an internal auditor with Price Waterhouse, Chicago, working there for 4 years before moving to Des Moines in 1975. Lee worked for Wolf and Co., later Deloitte Touche, before entering the private sector as internal auditor and accountant for trucking companies, Ruan and later PacLease. He retired in 2011. Lee was a member of Gifts of the Spirit Ministries Fellowship Church, past member of Clive Lions Club, also served on committees for United Way and Home Health Aides and Mobile Meals. He enjoyed working with computers and electronic gadgets. Lee loved his black lab, Mr. B. Lee is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn, two children, Michael (Shelli), of Des Moines, and Sherry (Kevin) Waldon, of Edmond, Okla.; five grandchildren, Kiefer Ver Steegh, of Eugene, Ore., and Nichole Richardson, of Orleans, France; Boone and Bailee Waldon, of Lantana, Texas, and Ashtyn Manning, of Edmond, Okla.; brother, the Rev. Keith (Debbie)Ver Steegh, of Des Moines; sister, Barbara (Randy) Sterling, of Rose Hill, and his father Raymond (Wilma) Ver Steegh, of Oskaloosa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother (Leona (TePaske) Ver Steegh and sister Rosemary Vitosh.
