NEW SHARON — Kenneth Green, 81, of New Sharon, passed away Thursday Morning, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. Interment will be held in the Highland Cemetery in New Sharon. Visitation will begin after 12 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House. Friends may sign the online guest book at www.hollandcoblefuneralhomes.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Green, son of Wilbur and Maude (Parsons) Green was born on Dec. 7, 1931, in Oskaloosa. He grew up and went to school at Spring Valley and graduated from What Cheer High School in 1949. During high school, Ken worked on the family farm with his father. He went into the U.S. Army on Feb. 28, 1950, serving in Alaska and was honorably discharged as SFC on March 18, 1953. He then served another 12 years with the National Guard working on the Missile Sites in Chicago. On Jan. 28, 1982, Ken was united in marriage to Beverly Dittmer. They owned and operated Green’s Café in New Sharon for 22 1/2 years. Ken is a very proud member of the Jehovah Witnesses being baptized on April 19, 2008. Ken enjoyed wood working and his little dog, Eddie.

Ken is survived by his wife of 31 years, Beverly, of New Sharon; two daughters, Phyllis (John) Martin, of Joliet, Ill., Patty (Randy) Sheely, of Oskaloosa, and one son, Sonny (Suzette) Dittmer, of Oskaloosa; his four grandchildren, Troy (Jennifer) Sheely, of Oskaloosa, Sally Jo (Matt) Roslund, of Michigan, Shane Dittmer, of University Park, and Shari (Alan Midkiff) Meek, of Newton; five great-grand-children; one brother-in-law, Jack Welch, of Oskaloosa, and several of Beverly’s sisters and brothers and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Wilbur and Roy; three sisters, Lucille Peoples, Marjorie Lundy and Beulah Welch.
