 Ila B. Miller, age 87 of Monroe, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at North Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church with burial following at Vandalia Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.   Memorials may be directed to the Monroe United Methodist Church or the Vandalia Cemetery Association and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The daughter of James Henry and Fern (Templeton) Colyn, Ila was born on November 22, 1925, in Dunreath, Iowa.  On September 2, 1943, she was united in marriage to Everett Holla Miller in Princeton, Missouri.  Ila was a homemaker and lived in the area all of her life.  Ila’s life was her family she was very proud of her eight children and always put them first.  Her family and friends, baking, embroidery, and love of blue grass music were Ila’s passions.  She expressed her love for friends and family by sharing her homemade pies, bread, cookies, and cinnamon rolls as well as her beautiful embroidered tea towels.  In earlier years she liked to take a treat to her “older” friends and stay for a visit.  Ila treasured her calls and visits with her little old ladies in town just to check in with them.  Embroidering her tea towels filled many hours with her creativity and were in demand far and wide.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Dwight (Sharon) Miller of Fremont, Iowa, Dwain (Sue) Miller of Oskaloosa, Iowa, David (Phyllis) Miller of Monroe, Dorothy Allison of Ankeny, Iowa, Dick (Pam) Miller of New Boston, New Hampshire, Debra Spurgeon of Fremont, Iowa, Dennis (Nancy) Miller of Bussy, Iowa, and Darlene (Jr.) Fritz of Jefferson City, Missouri; 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, a sister, Irene Vaughn of Runnells, a brother, Hubert (Glenna) Colyn of Runnells, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Tratchel of Newton, and a host of friends and relatives.  Preceding her in death were here parents, husband in 1985, two grandsons, Zachary and Levi Miller, and two sons-in-law, Dean Allison and Dan Spurgeon.
