MARGARET SHAW JULY 29, 1920 -- APRIL 13, 2014

EUREKA, Kan. — Margret Neoma (Spencer) Shaw passed away the morning of Palm Sunday, April 13 while surrounded by family in her Woodbury Faith House.

Margret was born July 29, 1920, in Emporia, Kan., the daughter of Calvin and Nina Spencer. She married Willard Shaw on Aug. 10, 1941. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest and Eugene Spencer and her sister, Esther Powell. She is survived by four sisters: Virginia Heavilin (Michigan), Gertrude Page (Oklahoma), Maxine Denney (Indiana) Alice Moon (Missouri) three daughters and one son: Elaine (Gerald) Carder (Kansas), Audrey (David) Aitken (Oregon), Jan (Lee) Slagter (Minnesota), Morris (Svetlana) Shaw (Nebraska) , nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

Margret went to nurses training at Newman Hospital in Emporia, Kan., after graduating from Emporia High. She served as a surgical nurse in Greenwood Co. Hospital, Eureka, Kan., as her children entered college, and Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, until her retirement at the age of 80 in 2000. Margret’s life centered on her family, all while being actively involved in church life at College Avenue Friends in Oska-loosa. She and Willard moved there in 1966 where he was a professor of education at William Penn (College) University. Margret’s life was grounded in her faith and worship of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Cooking was one of her favorite past times, and all who knew her supported this talent. She also enjoyed ceramics, water exercise classes, teaching Sunday School, and Bible study.

The family would like to thank The Villa, and Faith House in Woodbury, Minn., for the care of their mother after she moved from Oskaloosa in 2010.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Margret’s memory Friday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at College Avenue Friends Church.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, Kan., Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to College Avenue Friends Church, 912 N C St., Oskaloosa, IA 52577.
