OSKALOOSA — Zelda Mae (Myers) Johnson, 91, formerly of Oskaloosa and Ottumwa, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in Longmont, Colo.
She was born in Fremont on Oct. 20, 1922, the daughter of Ralph and Emma Davis Myers. Zelda was valedictorian of her Fremont High School class of 1940.
While working in Oskaloosa at the overall factory, she met Leroy Johnson. They were married Nov. 7, 1942, in Missouri. From this union were born three sons, Ronald Lee, Gary Dean and Bruce Everett.
Zelda was a very loving and creative mother and homemaker. Her family was her prime interest and love, and she loved visiting and serving them.
Her family includes Ron (JoAnn) Johnson, of Colorado Springs, Color. Gary (Mary Ann) Johnson, of Stephenson, Va., and Bruce (Annette) Johnson, of Longmont, Colo.; grandsons Philip (Lauren), Steven (Amber), Michael (Melissa), Scott, Kevin, and three great-grandchildren Tyler, Ashley and Colton. Zelda also enjoyed time spent with her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 22, 1987, her parents, step mother, Florence (Scarborough) Myers, and siblings Ila, Kenneth, and Floyd. Also preceding her in death were step-siblings: John, (Max) Ben Scarborough and Jean (Scarborough) Merrick.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa with Pastor Dave Childers officiating. Interment will be at Henness Cemetery, southwest of Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Monday at the funeral chapel, with the family present Monday 9 a.m. until service time.
