OSKALOOSA — William B. Fisher, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab. Center in Oskaloosa.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Evans, the son of Robert R. and Mary M. Ridpath Fisher. On June 19, 1943, he was united in marriage to Imogene Ross at Lancaster, Moi. Imogene died Jan. 5, 2014. The two of them lived in Wright following their marriage. In 1963, they moved to Oskaloosa. Bill worked for the ASCS office in Oskaloosa, retiring from there in 1974. He worked for the Mahaska County Highway Department and retired from there in 1984. He enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting with friends, gardening, tinkering in the garage, and playing cards.
Bill’s family includes two children, Wanda Van Roekel, of Des Moines, and William R. Fisher, of Columbia City, Ind.; four grandchildren, Norman (and Jennifer) Van Roekel, Nancy Van Roekel, Paula Fisher, and Billie Jo (and Brook) Miller; nine great-grandchildren, Joe Van Roekel, Nick Van Roekel, Taylor Vander Well, Madison Vander Well, Bailey Fisher, Grant Lyle, Ryan Lyle, Benjamin Miller and Quinlan Miller; two sisters, Sarah Prather, of Oskaloosa, and Mary Morris, of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Imogene, Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Fisher; and four brothers, George, Charles, Robert and Raymond Fisher.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Madison Vander Well officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family present will begin Saturday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and will continue until service time at 11. Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab.
