MARENGO — Roger Clark Johnston, age 66, of Marengo died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at his home.
Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with the Rev. Dean Sires officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Inurnment will be in Eddyville at a later date.
Clark is survived by his son Fletcher Clark Johnston of Dallas, Texas; a grandson, Fletcher Clark Johnston II; and siblings, V. Diane Sires (Dean), of Ringgold, Ga., W. Kelly Johnston (Cindy), of Odessa, Mo., and Becky Moore (Monte), of Oskaloosa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Roger Clark Johnston was born Aug. 15, 1947, in Oskaloosa, the son of Clark and Helen Norwood Johnston. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1965, and received his BA in English from William Penn University, Oskaloosa in 1969. Clark taught at Mingo High School from 1971-72. He returned to school and received his master’s degree in Vocational Rehab Counseling from the University of Iowa in 1974. He relocated to Marengo and taught English at the Iowa Valley Schools from 1974 until his retirement in 2006. Clark was married to Sandra Fletcher on June 4, 1971 in Grinnell. To this union a son Fletcher was born. The couple later divorced. He was an avid Harley Davidson fan and enjoyed judging at the annual Antique Bike Show in Davenport every year. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan, as well as a St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was especially devoted to his nine Shih Tzu dogs.
