Carroll Mayfield, 60, of Oskaloosa, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday morning, Nov. 9, 2013, at her home in rural Oskaloosa.
Carroll Lynn Mayfield, daughter of Clyde Sr. and Minnie Mae (Garrett) Doty, was born April 11, 1953, in What Cheer. Carroll grew up in the What Cheer and Rose Hill areas. She married Robert Mayfield and to that union eight children were born. They later divorced. In addition her duties at home with eight children, Carroll worked in a variety of jobs including: restaurant work, driving truck for Food Liner and serving as a nursing assistant in nursing homes. Carroll enjoyed cooking and baking and loved living in the country where she enjoyed nature. Her dream was to live in a log cabin in the Rocky Mountains. She will be remembered for her can do spirit.
Her family includes her children: Heather Vandenberg, of Missouri, Misty Menninga, of Pella, Sierra Mayfield, of New Sharon, Shadow Short, of Oskaloosa, Flint Mayfield, of Marshalltown, Micah Mayfield, of Oskaloosa, Chance Mayfield, of Knoxville, Dominic Mayfield, of Oskaloosa; many grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five brothers: John (Susan) Doty, Kenneth (Judy) Doty, Robert (Marie) Doty, and Clyde (Nancy) Doty Jr., all of Oskaloosa, and Donald (Bonnie) Doty, of What Cheer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Snook and Betty Snook.
Funeral services for Carroll will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery near Harvey. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Memorials may be made in her name and will be designated at a later time.
