OSKALOOSA — Imogene Fisher, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.
She was born May 17, 1921, in Oskaloosa the daughter of Henry and Jeanette Cowan Ross. On June 19, 1943, she was united in marriage to William B. Fisher in Lancaster, Mo. Following their marriage, they lived in Wright. In 1963, they moved to Oskaloosa. Imogene worked as a clerk in the Mahaska County Soil Conservation office for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Skip-Bo and doing word-find puzzles.
Her family includes her husband of over 70 years William B. Fisher, of Oskaloosa; two children, Wanda Van Roekel, of Des Moines, and William R. Fisher, of Columbia City, Ind.; four grandchildren, Norman (and Jennifer) Van Roekel, Nancy Van Roekel, Paula Fisher, and Billie Jo (and Brook) Miller; nine great- grandchildren, Joe Van Roekel, Nick Van Roekel, Taylor (and Clayton) Boeyink, Madison Vander Well, Bailey Fisher, Grant Lyle, Ryan Lyle, Benjamin Miller and Quinlan Miller; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Prather, of Oskaloosa, and Mary Morris, of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
Imogene was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in- law, Marilyn Fisher; a sister: Dwella Labarre; and two brothers, Leonard Ross and Glen Cowan.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Don Job officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family will be Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Iowa Hospice or the Salvation Army.
