Randy DeJong, 56, of Leighton, passed away Nov. 19, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.

Randal Lee DeJong, son of Francis Lee and Cleora Helen (Van Kooten) DeJong, was born July 1, 1957, in Oskaloosa.  He was a graduate of Oskaloosa Christian Grade School and Pella Christian High School in 1975.  He attended Indian Hills Community College for two years where he studied agriculture.  Following his education, Randy returned to farming, an occupation he loved and that lasted his lifetime.  Agriculture was not just an occupation for Randy; it was his way of life.  He enjoyed the science behind cultivating crops, conservation of the land, and raising healthy animals; but working the land and caring for his live stock were labors of love for him.

Randy married Claudia Briggs and to that union, a daughter was born. He was then married to Dena Ferguson and to that union three children were born.  Jan. 23, 2004, Randy married Kristin Lea Buwalda.  

His family includes his wife of nine years, Kristin of Leighton; his children: Jessica Jean (Zach) Flaherty, of West Des Moines; Stephanie (Scott) Kluver, of Granger; Sharilyn (Eric) Brown, of Crowley, Texas and a step-daughter, Morgan Van Maanen, of Leighton;  five grandchildren: Aleixa and Bentley Flaherty, Maddison Brown, Autumn Jo Kluver and soon-to-be-born grandson, Wyatt Lee Brown; his parents, Fran and Cleora DeJong, of Leighton; sisters: Karen (Dan) Fynaardt, of Oskaloosa, and Belinda (Earl) Ramirez, of Oskaloosa; and a brother, Jim (Amy) DeJong, of Pella.

Randy was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacy DeJong. 

Funeral Services for Randy will be held privately.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Friday morning, Nov. 22, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 4-7 p.m. to greet visitors.  Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
