GEORGE ENGLAND FEB. 13, 1926 -- FEB. 3, 2014

MISSION, Texas — George England, 87, of Oskaloosa, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Mission Regional Health Center in Mission, Texas.

George A. England was born Feb. 13, 1926, to George Irwin and Ruby E. Simerman England in Washington, Iowa. George attended Smith Creek Rural School in Limecreek Township, Washington County. He then attended Wellman High School. He entered the U.S. Navy Feb. 9, 1944. He served on the USS Sutton (DE) and was discharged April 2, 1947. Following his service in the Navy, George went home to Wellman and farmed with his father. March 3, 1950, George married Martha Flander in Keota. A job with Fagan Elevator took the family to Keota in 1954. They remained in Keota until 1957 when George was hired by Pamco, Inc. His first assignment with Pamco was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served as an outside salesman for 2 ½ years. The family moved to Oskaloosa in 1960, where George continued to work for Pamco, first as plant superintendent, and for the last eight years as the general sales manager. George retired in 1988, after 31 years of working for Pamco. Jan. 1, 1996, Martha passed away. George was united in marriage to Marge McClun on Dec. 12, 1998 in Oskaloosa.

George is a member of the Central United Methodist Church and the American Legion and the American Legion Honor Guard.

George’s interests include camping, fishing, car racing and wintering in Texas.

George’s family includes his wife, Marge, of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Sandy Laffoon, of Adel; two grandchildren: Amy Laffoon of Kearney, Mo., and Eric Laffoon, of Oconomowoc, Wis.; one step-daughter, JoDee and (Loren) Van Kooten, of Oskaloosa; three step-sons: John (Bonnie) McClun, of Williston, Fla.; Gary (Deb) McClun, of Fremont, and Nick McClun, of Smithville, Mo.; 15 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; sisters: Martha (Leo) Hall, of Iowa City, and Mary Jane (John) Wilmoth, of Livingston, Tenn.

George is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Martha, a sister named Ethelda Moothart and a step-son, Jeff McClun.
